Bring On August 2013 And The New English Football Season

I like many others am starting to get impatient waiting for the new football season to start and everything it brings with it.  Waiting for midday on Saturday to come around so I can tune into Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports and get all the team news and previews of the upcoming matches. Normally I have the laptop out so I can tweak the fantasy football team while watching in case there is any breaking injury news.

So once the morning is out-of-the-way and the fantasy football submitted for the weekend, hopefully good enough to get top of the works league! It’s time to find out what games will be shown and when. Now starts the what will be tense negotiations with the other half to try to arrange some free time to catch the games that I’m most interested in (normally all of them if I have my Super 6 and Premier League accumulator bet placed). This isn’t always the easiest time as lets just say the better half’s love of the beautiful game is not quite as large as mine and so normally I will have to write off a couple of games in place of other seemingly essential weekend activities.

I’ll admit I am somewhat addicted when it comes to the football hence the excitement now that I am feeling now the pre-season has started and the transfer market is starting to hot up. Especially in a year where there has been a void of decent football during the break, no World or European Cup and I did give the Women’s European cup a watch so that I could follow the England team. Only to be disappointed as much like the men’s team they failed to live up to expectations.

So now is the time to pick my football bets for the weekend and if I happen to do an accumulator bet, hopefully it will still have a winning chance come the final game of the weekend! I do like to have a bet on the football at the weekend but nothing crazy as I’m not one to throw my hard-earned money away at silly bets and also like to get the most for my money when choosing who to place my football bets with. English Premier League Title Contenders Betting

Having already had a look at the potential betting options for the English Premier League top goal scorers, Lets now have a look a the Premier League title candidates and the betting opportunities and odds that you will be able to find prior to the season starting.

When looking at the candidates for the title its easy to get quite a small short-list and on that list you’ll have the usual contenders of Manchester

United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and at a stretch Liverpool and Tottenham. Lets first have a look at the odds (decimal) from one of the big bookmakers (in this instance Betfair) to see who they see as the favourites.

The odds after the above 5 teams just get silly as you would expect as you can’t really see anyone winning other than the first three in the above list.

What is interesting is that Manchester United are down to third favourites with the bookies. This would most certainly not be the case had Ferguson still been at the helm and I would have to agree that I can’t see David Moyes claiming the title on his first attempt with Manchester United. Although he is a quality manager I can’t see him getting quite as much from much the same squad as Sir Alex Ferguson had last season. It would be unwise to write off their chances as they will certainly be in the mix and with a few decent additions from the transfer market they could well claim yet another title.

Now onto Chelsea, With the return of the chosen one Jose Mourinho and already some decent signings in the transfer market I am liking Chelsea’s chances of taking the title back to Stamford Bridge. Jose Mourinho is a genuine winner and takes success to every club he manages, Obviously not to forgetting the controversy that normally follows him around. I’m sure he does create at least some of this in order to take the spotlight and pressure away from his players so it’s not always a bad thing and is at least entertaining in the most part.

 

What about Manchester City? Well currently just about the favourite with the bookies not that  odds wise there is much between these 3 teams. Very much like Chelsea and Manchester United Manchester City have opted for a new manager this season in Manuel Pellegrini. He certainly has a good C.V managing Real Madrid albeit not for long and also Malaga who he managed get qualified for the Champions League as well as progressing to the latter stages. Now with what is already a very strong squad he will surely be able to dip into what is seemingly a bottomless pit of money at City and bring in some of his own players and challenge for the title. City did push Manchester United last year and apart from the moments of inconsistent form against some of the lower teams probably would have been a lot closer, Can Pellegrini stop those blips happening? I’m not sure, he may well need time to adjust to the Premier League, Only time will tell.

I will be bold and stick my neck out by predicting Chelsea to get the title next season! My reasoning being is that they although they underperformed last season they now in Jose Mourinho have the only manager in these three teams that has been there and one the Premier League as well as titles at every other team he has managed. David Moyes I think will take a little time to adapt to managing the current champions and Pelligrini will probably take time to adjust to the English game.

As for the other 3 teams with odds listed above, I think the odds tell their won story and can’t see them mounting a serious challenge for the title unless perhaps Arsenal and and Wenger loosen their purse strings and spend big in the transfer market.

I’ll probably be fickle and change my mind once the transfer market really heats up and the big name signings start rolling in but for now will stick with my prediction. Make your own mind up though as I’m sure most will not agree and only when next May comes about will we know.

Premier League betting 2013/14

Looking forward to the Premier League season starting? I certainly am to fill the void of no football during the summer other than the Confederations Cup, Which if I am to be honest only interests me when the big guns are playing and holds limited betting opportunities.

So with the Premier League 2013/14 season fast approaching it is worth looking at some of the betting options it will have to offer early doors. Especially as with the changes to squads during the transfer market and indeed managerial changes it can make the odds you get fluctuate, Indeed in your favour it you pick the correct time to place you bets or are interested in trading your bets when the odds move in your favour on sites such as Betfair or Betdaq.

Let’s just have a look a the top goal scorer market today and we can cover the others later.

Personally I think the safest bet when picking a likely top scorer is to stick with the top of the table teams such as Manchester Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City or even Liverpool and Tottenham.

At this point I’d stick my nose out and say your safest bet would be Robin Van Persie again, even with the managerial change they will strengthen the squad and give him the service needed to find the back of the net.

Other players to consider are Luis Suarez of Liverpool who if not for his biting antics wouldn’t have been rightly banned and so would have been up there at the end of last season. But saying that he seems to want a move away so no guarantee he will actually be playing in the Premier League or who his replacement will be. Daniel Sturridge is fast growing into a quality player and is certainly an outside chance.

Lets have a look at Manchester Cities options in Edwin Dzecko, Carlos Tevez and of course Sergio Aguerro. All quality players capable or scoring plenty of goal but in my opinion due to the squad rotation that goes on at City unlikely to be right at the top. Unless the new manager chooses to stop rotating as much but only time will tell with that one.

What about Chelsea? Well who knows who is going to be there once Mourinho has made his changes to the squad. I can’t see Torres suddenly turning into the player of his Liverpool days and although Ba is a quality player I can’t see him playing enough.

The above are just a few of the options but with the transfer market just getting going, Along with rumours of Cristiano Ronaldo back to United, Higuain to Arsenal and even Cavani to Chelsea you may well want to wait until a bit closer to the season before picking your best bet.
